Learning Technologies

As part of our mission, the Koehler Center responds to the present needs of instructors by supporting various educational technology solutions, and by keeping the TCU community informed of new educational technology possibilities to promote engagement and improve learning.

Virtual Labs: Learning Technologies & D2L

If you would like support in setting up or using TCU Online/D2L, integrating educational technology, instructional or course design, or online/distance learning, please book a virtual lab consultation with our learning technology team through scheduling link below or email elearning@tcu.edu.

We supports the following educational technology solutions.

D2L

Brightspace by D2L is TCU’s current online learning management system. In D2L, instructors are able to post syllabi and announcements, share course content, give quizzes and exams, conduct discussions, accept electronic assignment submissions (and verify assignments with Turnitin), email students, and maintain grades.

Respondus

LockDown Browser & Monitor

LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within D2L to help prevent cheating in online exams. It is useful for securing online exams in classrooms or proctored environments. This tool is integrated with the Quizzes tool in TCU Online. Monitor, a companion application for LockDown Browser, uses webcam and video technology to record students during the online assessment process. Often used in non-proctored testing environments, Monitor requires the use of LockDown Browser. You can use LockDown Browser without Monitor.

YuJa Video Platform

YuJa is a video content management system for creating, editing, storing, and sharing video and audio files. It serves as a centralized, secure place for recorded instructional videos, flipped classroom videos, TCU campus events, and more. It is equipped with accessibility features such as captions, bookmarks, and downloadable support files.

Originality Checking

iThenticate & Turnitin

iThenticate and Turnitin are both internet-based originality checking and plagiarism prevention services that allow instructors to verify the originality of text. iThenticate can be used by instructors and graduate students to ensure the originality of written work before publication. Turnitin allows instructors to verify the originality of student work, and can be utilized as a teaching tool to educate students about plagiarism and help them learn and practice proper citation. Turnitin can be enabled within an Assignment in TCU Online, or used as a stand-alone tool through Turnitin.com.
