What are Respondus LockDown Browser® and Monitor®?

LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor are tools used to maintain the integrity of online exams in an online testing environment.

LockDown Browser®

  • Locks down the testing environment in TCU Online.
  • Prevents access to other websites, apps, copy/paste, or printing while taking a quiz.
  • Students must download and launch it before starting the exam.

Note: In order to use LockDown Browser, students must have the ability to install programs on the computer they will be using. Students may take a test with an iPad if instructors enable that option within Advanced Settings (step 5). Chromebook may be used by test takers via thChrome Lockdown Browser Extension.

Respondus Monitor®

  • Works with LockDown Browser (can’t be used alone).
  • Uses a webcam and microphone to record students during the online assessment process. 
  • Ideal for non-proctored or remote testing environments

Instructors can enable Monitor within the Quizzes tool in TCU Online, along with LockDown Browser. When enabled, students are required to use a webcam and microphone with LockDown Browser.
